Herb Lozier navrhl v roce 1938 zajímavý model, který je určen pro pohon jak spalovacím, tak elektrickým motorem. Kluzáky a modely poháněné gumovým svazkem byly prvními typy leteckých modelů, které se stavěly. Již na počátku 19. stol. George Cayley v roce 1804 sestrojil model kluzáku s moderní koncepcí, prakticky tak, jak je využívána dnes (pevná nosná plocha, trup, horizontální a vertikální stabilizátor). Pokusům s gumovým svazkem se věnovali také např. bratři Wilbur a Orville Wrightové, kteří v 70. letech 19. století takové modely stavěli.
