The story of Reginald Denny’s “Dennymite” engine is really the story of Walter Righter and The Righter Manufacturing Co. Denny owned a hobby shop and had asked Walter Righter to participate in a miniature airplane engine contest. Denny wanted an engine he could sell under his name and Righter won the contest.

Danner Bunch along with such builders as the Dooling Bros., Col. Alexander Morrison, etc. were the earliest pioneers in the building and running of the Spindizzy racers. “Dennymites” were often used to power these models.

The wonderful improvements that have been made in miniature internal-combustion engines in the last few years, (for which we have to thank the power boat men) have, given us a power unit, developing nearly half horse-power, the weight of which can be held down as low as 2 lb., excluding the flywheel, which, of course, is unnecessary in aircraft.

Antares is a well-known racing model designed by Jaroslav Broz in 1942. It has a nicely shaped streamlined fuselage, elliptical wing sits above the fuselage on a pylon. Originally powered by the IPRO IKAR 6,3 ccm spark engine, but most modelers are using any suitable engine even glow or diesel.

The third and final design in this series of classroom projects bears a close resemblance both in appearance and construction to actual, full-size utility gliders. Two-ply Bristol board, stiff cardboard, assorted pine strips, a nose block of scrap pine or balsa, light model tissue, cement, dope and a paper clip for the simple wire fittings complete the list of required materials.
